- TGIF-QA: Toward Spatio-Temporal Reasoning in Visual Question Answering Vision and language understanding has emerged as a subject undergoing intense study in Artificial Intelligence. Among many tasks in this line of research, visual question answering (VQA) has been one of the most successful ones, where the goal is to learn a model that understands visual content at region-level details and finds their associations with pairs of questions and answers in the natural language form. Despite the rapid progress in the past few years, most existing work in VQA have focused primarily on images. In this paper, we focus on extending VQA to the video domain and contribute to the literature in three important ways. First, we propose three new tasks designed specifically for video VQA, which require spatio-temporal reasoning from videos to answer questions correctly. Next, we introduce a new large-scale dataset for video VQA named TGIF-QA that extends existing VQA work with our new tasks. Finally, we propose a dual-LSTM based approach with both spatial and temporal attention, and show its effectiveness over conventional VQA techniques through empirical evaluations. 5 authors · Apr 14, 2017
- A Primal-Dual Method for Training Recurrent Neural Networks Constrained by the Echo-State Property We present an architecture of a recurrent neural network (RNN) with a fully-connected deep neural network (DNN) as its feature extractor. The RNN is equipped with both causal temporal prediction and non-causal look-ahead, via auto-regression (AR) and moving-average (MA), respectively. The focus of this paper is a primal-dual training method that formulates the learning of the RNN as a formal optimization problem with an inequality constraint that provides a sufficient condition for the stability of the network dynamics. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this new method, which achieves 18.86% phone recognition error on the TIMIT benchmark for the core test set. The result approaches the best result of 17.7%, which was obtained by using RNN with long short-term memory (LSTM). The results also show that the proposed primal-dual training method produces lower recognition errors than the popular RNN methods developed earlier based on the carefully tuned threshold parameter that heuristically prevents the gradient from exploding. 2 authors · Nov 24, 2013
- Hindi/Bengali Sentiment Analysis Using Transfer Learning and Joint Dual Input Learning with Self Attention Sentiment Analysis typically refers to using natural language processing, text analysis and computational linguistics to extract affect and emotion based information from text data. Our work explores how we can effectively use deep neural networks in transfer learning and joint dual input learning settings to effectively classify sentiments and detect hate speech in Hindi and Bengali data. We start by training Word2Vec word embeddings for Hindi HASOC dataset and Bengali hate speech and then train LSTM and subsequently, employ parameter sharing based transfer learning to Bengali sentiment classifiers by reusing and fine-tuning the trained weights of Hindi classifiers with both classifier being used as baseline in our study. Finally, we use BiLSTM with self attention in joint dual input learning setting where we train a single neural network on Hindi and Bengali dataset simultaneously using their respective embeddings. 2 authors · Feb 11, 2022
